The Finnish Packaging Association (SPY) monitors the technical and economic development of the industry, the guidelines, standards and legislation affecting the industry, as well as the attitude towards packaging in general, and conveys information on these issues to its members.
SPY actively participates in the social debate and influences the development of regulation in the field. SPY is a member of the Ministry of the Environment’s Strategic Cooperation Group on Waste and the Finnish Standardization Association’s Packaging Committee of SFS.
In Finland, SPY maintains regular contact with political decision-makers and the authorities. SPY has active relations with the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Labor and the Economy and the Ministry of Finance, as well as their subordinate agencies and institutions (e.g. the Food Agency).
In the EU, SPY maintains direct contacts with Finnish MEPs and the commissioner’s cabinet. Indirectly, SPY influences by operating in the EUROPEN European packaging and environment organization.
The Finnish Packaging Association is a member of the Scandinavian Packaging Organization SPA and the World Packaging Organization WPO.
